This year we did not opt for the insanity-inducing big birthday party for Little Man. The good news is that this allows Mama to relax and enjoy the whole birthday much more plus it makes Hudson’s birthday celebration a month long event. Hudson started celebrating at the beginning of the month and still has not seen all of our family! He’s quite the expert at the art of blowing out birthday candles now too.
The bad news could be that when this month of cake and candles ends, he greets all houseguests and family begging for more gifts. Everyone seems to be bringing him something! Also, I hope he won’t freak out if we don’t continue to sing “Happy Birthday to you” to him every other day. (By the way, it is hilarious to me that Hudson THINKS his name is You. Just ask him. “What is your name?” “You.”)
I don’t know what you did for your last birthday, but I am sure it didn’t involve hitting a pool scantily clad with members of the opposite sex. The fact is my son and his two lady friends did just that.
On Friday, I decided to follow universal kid party advice and asked only his two very best buds to join us for a lunch of ice cream sundaes. Keeping it small, kept is easy and fun. While they were here we broke out the fingerpaints (great gift) and let the kids create a little artwork in their birthday suits.
Then we went outside to wash up. An unsuspecting neighbor’s cat stupidly decided to stop by and left with blue fur.
Finally, we had our lunch of only sundaes. (Really. Just ice cream and chocolate syrup) The terrible twos started off pretty sweet (and sticky).

Poor kitty cat. Our boys are two years old. It is amazing how their gift opening techniques have changed. They know what is under all of that paper and bags.
